How to play morra game

The morra game has very simple rules, but as you play it turns harder and harder. To play morra only hands and voice are needed. Next is explained how to play morra game with all its modalities. At the end of this section, are some useful videos that illustrates the art of playing morra.

The game of morra is usually played between two players showing the fingers of one hand at the same time they shout the number of fingers that expect will appear. The player who shout the number of fingers that result from adding both players' showed fingers wins the point. As one player can only show the fingers of one hand at the time, he or she can show one, two, three, four or five fingers. Then, the total number of fingers showed by both players is between two fingers (at least they have to show one finger) and ten fingers (the maximum showed fingers is five). Players shout numbers by their name, e.g. "¡¡¡dos!!!" (two), "¡¡¡cinco!!!" (five), except ten that usually is used the spanish term "todas!!!" ("all" in english).

The game goes on at a higher rythm. Fingers are shown and numbers are shouted and it can be possible that neither player shout the correct number or both players shout the correct number at the same time (occurs a draw and so players continue playing till a player wins the point). When a player wins a point sometimes shouts "¡¡¡mia!!!" ("mine" in english).

The game seems simple but as we sayed it gets harder as you go on. The points are played fast, and it is usually to repeat numbers frequently. The player must be over this and has to think in two ways:

- force the adversary to repeat numbers and win the point showing the correct number of fingers, and

- not show the number of fingers that can make easier to the adversary to win the point.

To achieve high skills in morra game the player must have good observation skills, psicological habilities and have to be brave.

A game of morra is usually played at the best of 21 points' sets. If needed, a third set can be played in order to determine the winner. Usually, losers pay a round of beer or wine to winners and can ask for a revenge.

In the past some disagreements where solved out by a game of morra.

There are other game options: one on one, couples on couples and so on until five or six people by team. The number of points by set can be altered but not the rules, that are always the same.
